2012 National Underground Railroad Conference

Carol and Eric Poplin plan to attend the 2012 National Underground Railroad Conference in St. Augustine, Florida from June 20 to 23, sponsored by the National Park Service. This conference seems to be especially interesting with the theme of: Escaping to Destinations South: The Underground Railroad, Cultural Identity, and Freedom along the Southern Borderlands. Carol Poplin will be presenting a poster, Excavation to Exhibition – Archaeological Research and Storied of the African Diaspora. This poster explores the work done at the site of Dean Hall Plantation slave row, the important role archaeology plays in generating and preserving information about African American history that may not be available through documentary resources, and the great obligation researchers have to share this knowledge with the public.
