“Up From the Roots: Remembering Rural St. Johns County”

On October 15, 2011, Charlie Philips provided project background and Jeff Gardner introduced a Brockington and Associates/History Workshop-produced film to a gathering of St. Johns County, Florida residents at Trout Creek Park. The short film documents the region’s history through recent efforts of our Oral History Program to record audio and video interviews with residents along the William Bartram Scenic and Historic Highway. The interviews and film were funded by a National Scenic Byways Program grant. During the midday gathering, participants were honored and presented with DVDs and transcripts of their interviews. The film’s screenwriter was Carol Poplin and Sally Brockington was the editor. The film was well-received and will be used as a fundraiser by the William Bartram Scenic & Historic Highway Corridor Management Council.
